Tajik License Plate Format

Tajik vehicle registration plates use black characters on white background. Standard size 520×110mm. Current format introduced April 2014 with modifications: letter size equal to number size, chip added under TJ code. Tajikistan flag displayed on left side with country code “TJ” in Latin letters below. Format consists of 4 digits, 2 letters, and 2-digit regional code (1234AB56). Registration plates managed by Ministry of Internal Affairs. System based on Russian Federation design but adapted for Tajikistan. Regional code no longer written in separate window as in 1996 series – now integrated into main serial. Two-row plates exist for trailers with 4 digits in top row, 2 letters and regional code in bottom row.

Cyrillic alphabet letters that look similar to Latin letters: A, B, E, K, M, H, O, P, C, T, X. Since 2014 also Latin letters D, J, Z, Y. Arabic numeral

01-Dushanbe, 02-Sughd Oblast, 03-Khatlon Oblast, 04-Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Oblast, 05-Dushanbe, 06-Sughd Oblast, 07-Districts of Republican Subordination, 08-Districts of Republican Subordination

Legal Entity/Organizational Vehicles

Black on white, format 751XB01 (3 digits + 2 letters + 2-digit regional code). Three digits at beginning instead of four. Polish standard font with equal letter and number size.

Trailers

Black on white, two-row square format. Top row: Tajikistan flag, TJ code, 4 digits. Bottom row: 2 letters, 2-digit regional code. Format example: 9999/WT02.

Transit

Left window has regional code and TJ on yellow background with “tranzit” below, right section has 4 digits and 1 letter in black on white. First letter with Tajikistan flag above last letter.

Motorcycles

Black on white, two-row square format. Top row: Tajikistan flag, TJ code, 3 digits. Bottom row: 1 letter, 2-digit regional code. Format example: 304/A 03.

Public Transport

Black on orange background, format 9006TT05 (4 digits + TT + 2-digit regional code). Letter combination “TT” always used. Equal letter and number size.

Police Vehicles

Black on white, format 0245M01 (4 digits + M + 2-digit regional code). Letter M designates Ministry of Internal Affairs vehicles.

Diplomatic

White on red background, formats: D (diplomatic employee), S (non-diplomatic employee), CMD (head diplomat). Format example: 091 CMD 1.

Military

Black on white, format 001CO04 (3 digits + CO + 2-digit regional code).

Government

Tajikistan flag colors (red/white/green horizontal stripes), format 312 T J (3 digits + T J).
