ANPR for Slovenia

Slovenian License Plate Format

Slovenian vehicle registration plates feature black characters on white background with EU blue stripe (euroband) displaying 12 EU stars and country code SLO on the left side. Plates are made of metal in Helvetica typeface (2004-2008) or old font (2008-present) with green border reintroduced in June 2008 (originally used 1992-2004). Standard size 520×120mm. System uses regional coding where first 2 letters denote registration region, followed by city coat of arms sticker for subdivision identification. Two plates mandatory per vehicle (front and rear), motorcycles require only rear plate. Three design periods remain valid: 1992-2004 green border without euroband, 2004-2008 with euroband and tamper-proof text, 2008-present with euroband and green border restored.

Special Plate Types in Slovenia

Motorcycles

Black on white, same format as standard but smaller size with two-line layout (region code and crest on first line at top, serial number below). Single rear plate only. EU stripe and green border included.

Personalized/Vanity

Black on white, various formats possible including custom text combinations, must include region code and city crest. Standard size 520×120mm with EU stripe and green border.

Military

White on black or black on white, format SV ##-### (prefix SV for Slovenska vojska/Slovenian Armed Forces). Standard size, no EU stripe or green border on older versions.

Diplomatic

Green letters and black numbers on a white background. CMD #### / CD #### (official diplomatic cars), M #### (other diplomatic). Four digits after the letters; the first two identify the organization or embassy. EU stripe included, no green border.

Temporary Long-term

Black on white with EU stripe and green border (since 2004), format: region code + city crest + L#-#L with last 2 digits of year vertically aligned on right side. Motorcycle version has euroband, code and crest above 3 numerals with year digits.

Trailer

White on white (reverse format of regular plates), format: ###-LL + region code (serial number before shield, region code after). Regional code appears after coat of arms rather than before. Standard size with EU stripe and green border.

Temporary Test/Dealer Test

White with red vertical stripe, format: region code + “PR” vertically on red band + L##-### (1 letter + 2 digits + hyphen + 3 digits).

Export

Black on yellow background, format: region code + L#-### with month and year of validity displayed in small black panels on right side.

Police

Blue on white background, format P ##-### (prefix P). Standard size with EU stripe, no green border.
