ANPR for Iran

Iranian License Plate Format

Iranian license plates have followed European standard dimensions since 2005. Plates are entirely in Persian alphabet (including numbers) with black text on colored backgrounds depending on vehicle type. Each province has multiple unique two-digit codes displayed in a distinguished square outline at the right end, above which “ایران” (Iran) is written. The format follows ## X ### – NN where X is a series letter assigned to specific vehicle classifications that changes sequentially as number combinations are exhausted.

Black text on white background, format XXX-##### (3-digit provincial code + 5-digit number), registration displayed in two lines, issued provincially. Neither provincial code nor registration number can contain zero

Diplomatic

White text on red background, series letter د (D), format ## د ###-### (3-digit country/organization code + 2-digit rank identifier), issued nationally starting from code 11. First 3 digits identify country/organization (133 countries numbered

Free Trade Zones

Black text on white background, 5-digit number in Persian (top) and Western Arabic numerals (bottom), Iranian flag and zone logo on left with English name below, American standard dimensions. Zones include: Anzali, Aras, Arvand, Kish, Maku, Chabahar, Qeshm
