Hungarian License Plate Format
Hungarian vehicle registration plates underwent major redesign on July 1, 2022. Current format features four letters and three numbers with Hungarian coat of arms after first two letters. System uses new font type. Previous format (1990-2022) used three letters and three numbers separated by hyphen.

Diplomatic (CD)
White on light blue background, format CD NNN-NNN where first 3 digits = country code (001-Vatican, 020-USA), last 3 digits = position/rank, since May 2017 (e.g., CD 020-123)
Police/Customs
Format R L NNNN where RB = police cars, other letters for vehicle types; RR 00-01 to 49-99 for law enforcement, RR 50-00 to 99-99 for customs (e.g., RB 1234)
Military
Format H L NNNN where L = vehicle type (A-cars, B-buses, N-motorcycles, S-ambulance, T-trucks, X-trailers), mostly tricolor, some with EU band (e.g., HA 1234)
Old Timer (OT)
Standard format OT NNNN for vehicles 30+ years old with original specifications, no EU band (e.g., OT 1234)
Ambulance
Format MA NNNN for ambulance vehicles, white background with black text, introduced 2006 (e.g., MA 5678)
Mopeds
Format S LLL NN for mopeds, introduced 2014 (e.g., S ABC 12)
Temporary Common (E)
Format E NNNNN-YY where YY = year of issue, valid max 180 days, Hungary only, no EU band (e.g., E 12345-24)
Temporary Export (Z)
Format Z NNNNN-YY where YY = year of issue, valid 30 days (e.g., Z 34567-24)
Agricultural (M)
Green on white background, format M NNNNNN, valid 3 years, Hungary only, no EU band (e.g., M 123456)
