French License Plate Format
French vehicle registration plates use permanent nationwide SIV system since 2009. Current format introduced April 15, 2009 for new vehicles, October 15, 2009 for used vehicles. Plates permanent with vehicle from first registration to disposal, no changes needed for owner relocation or vehicle sale. System replaces 1950 FNI format which was running out of combinations.
