Albanian License Plate Format
Albanian vehicle registration plates have been issued since 16 February 2011 in a format similar to Italian and French designs. Plates feature a blue strip on the left with ‘AL’ and redesigned double-headed eagle in white, followed by 2 serial letters, security hologram, 3 digits, and 2 serial letters on white background. The right blue strip shows year of registration and regional code.

Agricultural vehicles
White background with green characters, using specific letter combinations indicating agricultural or technological use (e.g., AA MB 12).
CD – Diplomatic Corps
White background with green characters, using the prefix CD followed by two digits identifying the mission and additional characters (e.g., CD 01 23A).
TR – Diplomatic Bodyguards
Green background with white characters, using the prefix TR (Truproje Diplomatike), followed by two digits and a letter (e.g., TR 01 45A).
MM – Military
White background with green border and green characters, using the prefix MM (Ministria e Mbrojtjes) followed by numbers and letters (e.g., MM 123 PU).
MB – Police
White background with blue border and blue characters, using the prefix MB (Ministria e Brendshme – Ministry of Interior) followed by numbers and letters (e.g., MB 123 FG).
Taxi
Yellow background with red characters, using the standard alphanumeric format ending with the letter T (e.g., AA 234 T).
Technological Vehicles
Green background with white characters, using the letters MT (Makinë Teknologjike) within the format (e.g., AA MT 34).
Trailers
Green background with white border and white characters, using a standard alphanumeric sequence that includes the letter R (for Rimorkio, trailer) within the plate format (e.g., AB R 123).
Test Vehicles
White background with red border and red characters, using 2 letters followed by 1 digit and the word PROV (meaning Provë, test) (e.g., AB 1 PROV).
