Afghan License Plate Format

Afghan license plates are bilingual, featuring province names in Persian or Pashto alongside Latin 3-letter codes. The plates display a numerical code (1-5 digits), vehicle class identifier (Persian letter with Latin equivalent), all on a white background with black letters for most types. The current system was introduced in 2004. A unique feature for Kabul province: when 5-digit codes were exhausted, an additional digit was added separately in Persian only, marked with hyphens above and below.

Kabul extended format: Same as standard format with an additional sixth digit in Persian numerals, separated from the main serial by two short horizontal marks
