UAE License Plate Format
UAE vehicle registration plates come under the jurisdiction of each of the seven emirates, each with unique plate numbering design and system. Plates are black text on white background (with some exceptions for special types). Two standard sizes available: 550×110mm and 335×155mm.
Plate Formats
Varies by emirate:
- Abu Dhabi: 1(2) 12345 (1-2 digit code + up to 5 digits)
- Ajman: A 12345 (letter + up to 5 digits)
- Dubai: A 12345 (letter/double letter + up to 5 digits)
- Fujairah: A 12345 (letter + up to 5 digits)
- Ras Al Khaimah: A 12345 (letter + up to 5 digits)
- Sharjah: 2 14567 (optional 1-4 code + up to 5 digits)
- Umm Al Quwain: A 12345 (letter + up to 5 digits)
Script
Latin alphabet, Arabic numerals.
Regional Codes
Each of the seven emirates issues its own distinct plates rather than using a unified nationwide regional coding system. Each emirate has independent numbering:

Ajman – Letter prefixes A, B, C, D, E, H

Fujairah – Letter prefixes A, B, C, D, E, F, G, K, M, P, R, S, T

Ras Al Khaimah – Letter prefixes A, C, D, I, K, M, N, S, V, Y

Sharjah – Optional category numbers 1–4 (possibly expanding to 1–5)

Umm Al Quwain – Letter prefixes A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, X

Black on blue background, up to 4 digits
Transit Vehicles
Black on green background, up to 5 digits
Police Vehicles
Black on white with dark green design on left side, up to 4 digits
