ANPR for Pakistan

Pakistani License Plate Format

Pakistani vehicle registration plates are issued by agencies of provincial or territorial governments, with each jurisdiction designing plates featuring distinctive symbols, colors, and slogans. All plates use the Latin alphabet exclusively. The registration system is decentralized, with each province and territory maintaining its own unique plate design and color scheme. Standard passenger vehicle plates measure 6 inches in height by 12 inches in width (152.4mm × 304.8mm), the same dimensions as United States plates, though measurements may vary slightly by jurisdiction. Smaller plates are used for motorcycles, scooters, and rickshaws. Registration numbers are typically embossed, with numbers assigned in ascending sequential order (starting from AAA-001), allowing determination of approximate registration date. Letters I, O, and U are excluded to avoid confusion with numerals 1, 0, and V. Provincial identity is expressed through distinctive features: Punjab plates display the Datura metel flower (since 2007), Sindh uses its provincial coat of arms on a yellow background, and Islamabad Capital Territory features the Faisal Mosque. The format varies by jurisdiction, typically consisting of 2-3 letters and 3-4 numbers.
