Omani License Plate Format
Omani vehicle registration plates display black characters on a yellow background for both front and rear plates. The registration plate system started in 1970, with the current version introduced in 2001 and a new design launched in 2021. Plates measure the standard European size of 520×110mm and feature the word “Oman” (عُمان) in Arabic script as a slogan. The format uses Arabic numerals followed by Latin letters to indicate the district of registration. Oman has multiple plate types distinguished by background color to identify different vehicle categories, including private vehicles (yellow), taxis and commercial vehicles (red), and various other specialized categories for government, diplomatic, agricultural, and rental vehicles.
