Armenian License Plate Format
Armenian vehicle registration plates were redesigned in 2014 to include FE-Schrift font and feature the Armenian flag on the left with AM/ARM code. The system uses different formats to distinguish between private and government vehicles.
Plate Format
Private vehicles: 2 digits, 2 letters, 3 digits (e.g., 12 AB 345)
Government vehicles: 3 digits, 2 letters, 2 digits (e.g., 123 AB 45)
Script
Mixed – Latin letters (all 26 A-Z currently in use, gradually introduced) and Armenian letters
City Codes
01–11, 13, 19, 61–68 – Yerevan
12, 27–29 – Armavir
14, 45–49 – Shirak
15, 21, 23, 24 – Aragatsotn
and other regional codes
Special Plate Types in Armenia
Motorcycle
Initially double-row format, later changed to compact format with first digits and letters combined on top row, remaining digits on bottom row.
Trailer
Trailer plates are similar to double-row plates as well, but the letter count is cut down to 1, and most often the letter L, with more compact dimensions.
Diplomatic
White on red background, format 01 D 234 AM where first digits = country code, D = diplomat (or T = technician), last letters AM or ARM for Armenia (e.g., 12 D 456 AM)
Buses
Buses have black-on-yellow plates, similar to the discontinued public transport plate in Russia, in the 1234 L format. The letter S is used for city buses, while long-range coaches use L.
UN Offices
UN offices carry white-on-blue plates in the format of UN 123 AM.
Military
Black background with Armenian letters ՊՆ (Ministry of Defense), 4 digits, 1 letter for vehicle type – Մ for passenger, Տ for transport (e.g., ՊՆ 0123 Մ)
