Åland License Plate Format
Åland Islands vehicle registration plates are part of the Finnish system but have unique characteristics. Since 1992, Åland plates feature blue lettering on white background and always begin with ÅL. The international vehicle registration code was FIN until 13 September 2025, when it changed to AX. Plates display “ÅLAND” text at the top with the coat of arms and flag.

Plates from Åland always begin with ÅL. Until 2011 they were always 3 letters and 1-3 numbers like rest of Finland, but in 2011 the plates started to have ÅL and 5 digits
